Writing Plans for 2021

Setting Goals for the New Year

Like most people, I'm happy to see the year 2020 walk out the door and never return. It has been a love / hate relationship for me with 2020. I'm an introvert at heart and I've enjoyed not being forced into social situations; but I've also missed hugging friends and family members. Being at home allowed me to write, A LOT, so I enjoyed that. We didn't take a vacation trip in 2020, and that really bums me, we had a couple of great trips planned that had to be cancelled due to COVID.

Setting Goals
I realize not everyone sets goals for their lives. Many people make New Year's resolutions that aren't worth the napkin they were written on. I set goals, but I like to think I'm flexible in my implementation of those goals. How's that for wriggle room? LOL. As an author that would like to write a number of novels before I die. Here are my writing goals for 2021.

Number of Published Books
I have set a goal to write and publish three novels in 2021. I can write an one-hundred-thousand novel in about six weeks. But that doesn't tell the whole story. I don't pretend to be the greatest grammarian in the world. In fact, I have a lot to learn about grammar and writing. So, I spend two to four times more time editing a novel than it takes me to write it. Part of that struggle is because I don't enjoy editing. I love outlining a novel, planning plot twists and turns, and then writing it. But editing it, is like digging a ditch in hard clay. It's hard and unenjoyable.

Anyway, I'm shooting to publish three new novels. I'm just finishing Zita's Revenge, which should be published before January 18, 2021. Since most of the work for that novel occurred in 2020, I don't plan to consider that one of the three. Zita's Revenge has a professional editor looking at it right now. She has found a ton of things I had to change, so that's why I didn't get it out by January 1st.

  • I'm expecting to release The Mountain King prequel in the coming weeks. That will only be available to members of the Adgitize Press Readers Group. More details coming in the next two weeks.
  • The Mountain King Book Three is written, but I haven't started editing it yet. Look for it in May or June. I think this will be considered my best book, with a lot of emotion poured out as the characters solve problems in their lives.
  • The Mountain King Book Four is outlined, but no words on the page yet.
My writing technique is rather haphazard, where I'll jump between projects, depending on the day's mood. But when it's important, I take action. Setting goals that make me stretch; encourages me to get off the couch and in front of the computer to write.

Adgitize Readers Group
I'm starting the Adgitize Press Readers Group in two weeks and that is consuming a bit of time. That will give you an opportunity to converse with me and you'll learn more about me as an author. I'll let you know when you can sign up for it, and get an excellent FREEBIE in the process. WooHoo.

What are Your Goals?
How about you? Did you set goals for 2021 or make a New Year's Resolution? Will you keep your resolution or will it go bust by January 21, 2021? Hey, if you reach March and you didn't manage to follow through on your goals, then take a step back and write up new goals. Nobody ever said you can only set goals on January 1st.

Happy New Year, and Welcome to 2021!
